Katy is a city in the state of Texas, within the Houston–Katy-Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. Located in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties, its population was 14,102 as of 2010 census.

In the early 1800s Katy was known as “Cane Island” for the creek that runs through the area, a branch of Buffalo Bayou. Tall cane surrounded the creek. It was presumed to have been planted by either the Karankawa Indians or Spanish explorers. Katy used to be a wide-open prairie, the hunting ground of the Karankawa Indian tribes. Earliest settlement of the community was in 1872.

The economy of nowadays’ Katy is boosting thanks to several large-scale corporation that are operating in the city. Igloo Corporation and BP America have their headquarters established in Katy. Recently, Amazon has announced that they are building a huge distribution center in the city.
