Kia is saying that airbags that might not deploy in a crash are causing more than 410,000 cars and minivans to be recalling. Needing a repair from a Kia dealer are the Owners of 2017-2019 Kia Sedona minivans, 2017-2019 Soul and Soul EV hatchbacks, and 2017-2018 Forte sedans and coupes. Moreover, it is going to be free of charge.
Kia – Electrical Problem in Vehicle Airbag Control Unit
There is an electrical problem. It is within the airbag control unit (ACU). This does determine whether it can deploy airbags in a crash. Also, drivers may, in fact, notice that the airbag warning light is illuminating. It would be on the gauge cluster which is located behind the steering wheel.
In fact, there have been no crashes or injuries that are related to this recall. However, there have been 13 customer complaints and 947 warranty claims. This is according to the documentation the carmaker has provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Vehicles Recalled in Detail
The vehicles include Kia Soul hatchbacks that are manufacturing between July 25, 2016, and December 24, 2018. Plus Kia Soul EVs are manufacturing between May 18, 2017, and September 28, 2018, and Kia Forte sedans are manufacturing between March 2, 2017, and July 27, 2018. Finally, the Kia Forte Koup coupes that are manufacturing on October 4, 2016.
Recall Problem and Fix
The problem is the cover of the airbag control unit may come in contact with a chip on the ACU’s printed circuit board. It could damage the electrical circuit. There, the vehicle’s airbags might not deactivate or not deploy in a crash. This could cause serious injuries to occupants. Also, the Korean dealerships will inspect the ACU. Then, either update the vehicle’s software or plus replace the unit, if necessary.
